The History

Many eons ago, cats found untamed land, attracted to the wilderness and the tantalizing scent of prey. For moons, these feral cats fought only for themselves, with just a few living in groups.

Eventually, the fight for survival became so bloody with dead cats piling up that the living met in a special clearing among four trees one night during the full moon. The spirits of the slain arose, sparkling and glittering, and spoke to the living:

“The fighting must end,” they said, their voices echoing eerily throughout the clearing. “Designate borders and organize yourselves into clans. Those of you strong enough to take charge, we, SpiritClan, will grant you eight more lives so you may better serve your clan.”

Four cats stood up to take the challenge, and with the addition of eight more lives, their names became Lionspirit, Pumaspirit, Leopardspirit, and Cougarspirit.

Lionspirit, with his deputy Lynxheart, took ForestClan to the lands hidden among the trees, their stalking skills being put to good use there. Pumaspirit, joined by Jaguarpelt as his second-in-command, claimed the areas surrounded by the streams and rivers, WaterClan not being afraid to get wet. Leopardspirit, picking Cheetahclaw as her deputy, marked the flat plains as MoorClan’s territory, those cats fleet footed enough to catch prey in the open land. NightClan, led by Cougarspirit and her second-in-command Tigerfang, claimed the dark marshlands as their home.

For many moons, all was peaceful among the four clans. However, not all good things last…

One day, these strange creatures that the cats dubbed as “twolegs” appeared near their land with funny-looking and loud monsters. The monsters that the twolegs controlled whirred and whined against the walls of the caves the clans had used to communicate with SpiritClan, cutting the stone as easily as a cat’s claw slashes leaves. The monsters would then spit out shiny rocks, raw stones in brilliant colors that the cats had never seen before, that the twolegs marveled at before pressing onward in the cave.

Some cats were terrified of the twolegs; others were fascinated.

Lionspirit and Leopardspirit wanted to move the clans away from the twolegs and their monsters, yet Pumaspirit and Cougarspirit wanted to learn more about the strange creatures. Lionspirit and Leopardspirit would have moved ForestClan and MoorClan themselves, yet they soon realized that their clans were being split in two, as where WaterClan and NightClan. Lynxheart and Cheetahclaw actually agreed with Pumaspirit and Cougarspirit about the twolegs, splitting both ForestClan and MoorClan into two groups, those siding with the leaders and those agreeing with their deputies. WaterClan and NightClan were having the same problem: instead of their deputies agreeing with them, Jaguarpelt and Tigerfang despised the twolegs and openly voiced their opinions as being the same as Lionspirit’s and Leopardspirit’s.

With their link to SpiritClan broken, civil war broke out among the clans. Lionspirit and Leopardspirit, with Jaguarpelt and Tigerfang as their highest warriors, joined forces with those who agreed with their beliefs and became StarClan, while Pumaspirit and Cougarspirit, along with Lynxheart and Cheetahclaw, dubbed themselves and their followers GemClan after the stones the twolegs had discovered.

Eventually, the two sides, after sustaining heavy casualties and injuries, came to a truce. It was obvious that the two with such clashing beliefs would be able to live together peacefully, and so StarClan and GemClan separated, giving themselves new names so as not to have any ties with the other cats.

The newly named Lionstar and Leopardstar, along with Jaguarstar and Tigerstar, led the StarClanners west to new lands. Lionstar led the previous ForestClan members and renaming them ThunderClan for their bravery. Leopardstar remained the leader of the MoorClanners who had agreed with her, and they became WindClan for their speed. Jaguarstar became leader of RiverClan, leading the previous WaterClan members, while Tigerstar led the NightClan-turned-ShadowClan cats. These cats were interested in keeping their clans’ blood as pure as possible, and were not tolerant of outsiders very often. Like the strange twolegs, they believed that outsiders would only bring bad luck to the clans.

GemClan, traveling east of their rivals, became comprised of clans named after stones that the new leaders believed fit best with their new lives: EmeraldClan, previously ForestClan, and led by Lynxgem. SapphireClan, previously WaterClan members and led by Pumagem. RubyClan, previously MoorClan cats and led by Cheetahgem. And AmethystClan, previously NightClan members and led by Cougargem. Although they believed in keeping to themselves like their rivals, the GemClan followers were more intrigued by outsiders, and if one showed loyalty and trust, that outsider may find themselves a home in one of the GemClans.

Moons and moons passed, and the StarClans and GemClans forgot about one another. However, one day the StarClanners had twolegs get too close for comfort, destroying their homes. With no choice, StarClan led its followers east to more land, and unknowingly had ThunderClan, RiverClan, WindClan, and ShadowClan settle down on territory that had once belonged to the GemClan followers. However, the GemClanners had realized that they had only needed the territory that they currently live in to survive comfortably.

Now the StarClans and GemClans are facing each other, doing their best to ignore the other in hopes that no trouble will arise. But can they really keep history from repeating itself…?

Glowinggem -- known for his cleverness and wisdom; developed some of the best tracking techniques to date
Ashgem -- known for routing out a traitor among the four GemClans
Dragongem -- along with Gingergem of RubyClan, Sandgem of SapphireClan, and Butterflygem of AmethystClan had decided to cut their original, vast territories in half
Ivygem -- was remembered for how open she was to her clan, always ready and willing to listen to any member at any time
Ambergem -- known for her discipline and quiet determination in leading her clan
Arcticgem -- known for his fierce loyalty to his clan and his ancestors

Pumagem -- main ancestor of SapphireClan; known for his great respect for all other creatures
Robingem -- known for her quiet dignity, yet never hesitating to speak up when she needs to
Frozengem -- was remembered for his bravery, despite not being the most honorable leader in the GemClans' history
Sandgem -- along with Dragongem of EmeraldClan, Gingergem of RubyClan, and Butterflygem of AmethystClan had decided to cut their original, vast territories in half
Wingedgem -- known for never showing her temper and for her wisdom
Redgem -- remembered for his kindness and intelligence, and passing away mysteriously in his den
Hawkgem -- is a proud leader known for his ability to remain calm and fair in times of crisis

Cheetahgem -- main ancestor of RubyClan; was known for his courageous bouts
Skygem -- known for her mother-like love for all of her clanmates, and her reign was one of the most peaceful reigns in the clan's history
Dustgem -- was known for his honesty and enthusiasm to always make the clan better
Gingergem -- along with Dragongem of EmeraldClan, Sandgem of SapphireClan, and Butterflygem of AmethystClan had decided to cut their original, vast territories in half
Streakgem -- known for his powerful skills, yet was fair to his clan
Fellgem -- although young, Fellgem was a wise leader who died prematurely from sickness in a harsh Leaf-bare
Quartzgem -- known for his thoughtfulness and strength
Stormgem -- earning his reputation as a fair and just leader

Cougargem -- main ancestor of AmethystClan; known for her boldness
Snowgem -- known for her soft manner of speaking and never hesitating to use her sharp claws
Falcongem -- remembered as the most shameful leader of AmethystClan's history for misdeeds brought about from ambition; left the clans voluntarily, giving the leadership to Bluegem, and was never seen again
Bluegem -- brought back the clan's honor from Falcongem's deeds, and reigned firmly and fairly for the rest of his nine lives
Butterflygem -- along with Dragongem of EmeraldClan, Sandgem of SapphireClan, and Gingergem of RubyClan had decided to cut their original, vast territories in half
Cindergem -- known for both her short temper and her great selflessness for her clan
Dawngem -- developing her reputation as a leader who always thinks of her clan before herself
