Krystal: The RP boards have been cleaned out and almost all of the RP threads have gone to the archives or have been deleted. We also got rid of the Gatherings; we'll try them again later. There is an Activity Check happening, people!

Lioncub: The SapphireClan News has been updated, so go check that out.

 RULES
« Thread Started on Jun 27, 2008, 3:32pm »

Yes, the fun part of any site: the rules! We staff expect each and every one of you to obey these rules. Think of these as the laws of this site. You disobey them, and you'll go to jail.
D
**Along with these rules, we are also complying to Proboards rules. If you don't obey those as well as these, then this site could get in trouble. Please don't do anything stupid!**

General Rules:

1) Respect: Always be fair, nice, and respect one another. I don't expect everyone to be total angels, but at least be tolerable. This site was made so everyone can have fun, but it won't be if there are arguments everywhere. If you have an issue with another member, take it to PMs, or come to me or another admin.

2) Listen to the Admins/Moderators: This should go without saying. We're in charge, so if we say "No," it's a "no". However, just because these people have power doesn't mean they should abuse it. If you feel one is being unfair, then come to me about it.

3) Stay In-Character: When Rp-ing as your kitties, it's important to remain in-character. If, for any reason, you need to say something out of character, please clearly indicate that it is OOC. Chat-speak (ex: lol, g2g, etc.) is okay in OOC, but not allowed IC.

4) NO Power-playing/God-modding: These are big "no-no"s.

  • Power-playing is controlling someone else's cat. For example, saying your cat slashed so-and-so's cat's ear off is power-playing. You cannot make someone else's cat move, talk, or any other kind of action without their permission.
  • God-modding is making your feline all-powerful. Your cat cannot be in a fight and come out totally unscathed while killing everyone else. Every cat has its own weakness. For instance, maybe your cat has unusually long claws. To counter their extra strength, the cat may be too heavy to swim well, thus giving them a weakness.

In short, control only your own cats, and don't make them invincible.

A

5) No Supernatural Cats: This is a Warriors RP site. I personally don't want it to be crossed over with X-Men, Justice League, or something like that. There will be no cats with extra powers, such as weather-control, gills like a fish to breathe underwater, bat-wings growing out of their backs, etc.

6) No Graphic Fights/Mating/Birthing: Just no. There is no need for all the descriptions like that. In a fight, obviously you can say there was blood, etc., just don't use too much gore.

7) No Swearing: Last time I checked, cats don't swear. This is a site for a wide-range of ages, so please no cussing.

8) Role-play in 3rd-person: Although those who like to RP in 1st-person are generally very good, it is easier for everyone to stick with RPing in 3rd-person.

9) STAY ACTIVE!: Please, this is the key ingredient for any RP site. If you choose to be a member, I'm expecting you to be on at least 3-5 days a week (unless otherwise noted in the 'Away' board). If not enough people are active, this site could die. If you have not posted in IC/RP in over one month without saying that you would be gone, then you will be deleted. Likewise, posting in the Away board with a message saying something like, "I will be busy" for an unspecified amount of time will be tolerated for only so long, especially if you play a high position.

Bio and Post Info:
Y

  • You may NOT create profiles for cats going into StarClan, GemClan, or Cloud Haven right away. Those are for fallen kitties only.
  • Each cat should have his or her own profile thread.
  • Please do not make them blatantly evil-sounding or horrible, such as Deathkit or Twistedkit. Don't give names that a mother wouldn't give her children!
  • When describing your cats, please be realistic. For example, there are no such things as purple cats with red eyes.
  • Leaders, Deputies, Medicine Cats, and Medicine Cat Apprentices are considered high-power positions. You may have more than one high position, but your cats must climb the ranks within the clan like they do in the books.
  • Please don't have any cats with beginning names that are the same as their clan. For example, don't make a cat in ThunderClan with a name like Thunderstrike. If the clan name is in the second part of the name, like Loudthunder in ThunderClan, then that is fine.
  • Either have a list of your cats in your signature, or provide a link to your Cat List in this board.
  • If you're bio hasn't been looked at in 72 hours (or three days), then you may PM a staff member to ask them to look at it. Do not bug us if you've only been waiting an hour or something. We have lives outside of the site and are not on 24/7.
  • All role-playing posts must be 75 words at the very least. That should be simple for everyone to do, and there is a word count box at the bottom of every page to count your words for you.
  • When you create your cat, please do not have them related to past leaders; we now have a list of past leaders for this site (please see Clan Histories), and we would prefer to not have every warrior be a descendant or great-great-grandchildren or fifty-seventh cousins thrice removed of them.

In regards to Sample ICs, and ALL posts in general, use description. Description is extremely important here, as they make your posts longer and funner to read. For example, the following two sentences would be considered a one-liner:

Arcticsun glanced around quickly and spotted a mouse. With a swift pounce, the mouse was dead.

Those puny 16 words would have resulted in a warning. They could be turned into so much more with description:

The sun had peaked over the horizon, signaling to the clan cats that it was due time for the Dawn Patrol. A cream-and-white hued tom padded silently through the dew-covered grasses near the giant Honeysuckle tree, his paws getting slightly wet as they touched the delicate water droplets. His wise, navy-blue orbs watched the grasses carefully with his ears perked and mouth open a tad to taste the morning air.

No piece of prey was going to escape the EmeraldClan warrior.

Arcticsun froze, his right fore-paw still hovering in the air, as he scented mouse. Ears silently swiveling and eyes darting, the tom quickly pinpointed the rodent's position. With a quick and mighty leap with his back legs, he pounced...

The mouse never knew what hit it.

The above italicized passage was an easy 124 words. Don't be afraid to elaborate. Tell what the cat is seeing, hearing, thinking, feeling, etc. Use all their senses with creative description.

Mating Notes:
D
This is just a few notes on mating in the "Stars VS Gems" world.

I first want to clear up that, in the Warriors world, "mating" refers to having kits. It's an extremely common bonus if the two cats deeply care for each other. In the Warriors world, we've all read how some toms sire, or father, more than one litter of kits to different queens, such as Tigerstar. Some other toms, like Dustpelt, stick with one queen because they truly love her.

So, when looking for a mate, keep in mind that the tom and she-cat can get with other cats as well, even though it may not be that common.

Now, onto the true rules of this topic:

  • Falling in love with a mate should happen naturally in-game; there are to be no planned mates on this site. Become friends first before getting closer and closer to each other.
  • Both RPers MUST agree to the mating, even if it is under the rare circumstance of force-breeding. (If the circumstance is force-breeding, both RPers must PM the same staff member to get permission and so we know you both truly agreed.)
  • Cats MUST be at least 12 moons AND a warrior (if they are in a clan) before mating. Little crushes are fine and good between younger cats, but I do not want to see an apprentice becoming pregnant.
  • A queen is allowed to keep the identity of the father a secret.
  • When a queen becomes pregnant, and if she is part of a clan, the RPer should PM a staff member to let him/her know or post on the clan's stats so the stats can become updated.

I've seen people post with their cats as a couple when the two cats have never been in the same thread before, claiming that they love the other, etc., and, in all honesty, I cannot understand how RPers can have those "Instant Relationships" for their cats. Personally, I would rather have the two cats build up the love relationship. Do not have planned mates to keep the game interesting; you'll never know what the future may bring to your cats!

I would also like to say that cats do NOT need mates to live. I've seen people ready to kill off cats if they don't have mates, or people totally obsessed with their cats having someone else to make kits with. Clans would not exist if EVERY female was stuck in the nursery!

Mentor/Apprentice Notes:
R
Being a mentor is one of the most important jobs in a clan, as the warrior is passing down skills to a cat who will defend the clan in the future with what he/she was taught. A cat will become an apprentice when he/she becomes six moons old, at which time the leader of the clan will hold a ceremony for the cat to get a warrior for his/her mentor.

These are just a few quick rules (most already well-known as common sense) about the relationship between a mentor and an apprentice:

  • They must be of the same clan. That's quite obvious to everyone here.
  • A cat less than six moons cannot become an apprentice, or leave the camp for that matter.
  • A she-cat that is pregnant, or is going to become pregnant quite soon, cannot be a mentor. She would not be able to properly instruct the apprentice from the Nursery. If she had an apprentice for a while and then got pregnant, then she will have to speak to the leader about her apprentice getting a new mentor.
  • Each mentor and apprentice pair MUST try to have at least three training threads (generally one for hunting, one for fighting, and a last one as a mix or whatever you want). No one-liners in the thread at any time. Don't forget that apprentices have duties inside the camp, as well.
  • In order to comply with the in-game time, an apprentice must remain as an apprentice for at least two months real time.

Generally, it is the LEADER's decision regarding who will mentor whom during the cat's apprentice ceremony. When your kit becomes six moons, you need to PM your clan's leader so they can plan the ceremony and choose a mentor.

Also, please, if you entered the site with a ready-made apprentice, do not RP the apprentice as if he/she does not have a mentor. The cat wouldn't be an apprentice if he/she did not have a mentor. RP as if he/she does have a mentor while PMing the clan's leader to pick out a cat for you.

Leaders, once you pick out cats to mentor ready-made apprentices, don't forget to PM the new mentor, the apprentice, and a staff member to let them all know.

Kit Notes:

Everyone loves these little balls o' fluff. ^^ Unfortunately, due to some circumstances, we need a bit of rules for having kits.

  • An average litter is three to four kits. On this site, I will allow a MAXIMUM of four kits in a litter.
  • Kit searches should be conducted after both RPers of the parents agree on the status of the kits and their parents. Each kit should have an RPer before the mother has the kits. After some time, if some kits still aren't taken, then they will have to be born stillborn.
  • Kits must remain as kits for at least two real months time (See In-Game Time and Weather). After that time, then the RPers of the kits are allowed to PM their clan's leader so the leader may begin planning an apprentice ceremony, if the kits are in a clan.
  • The RPers of the parents must agree to the number of kits, the genders, and the first parts of the kits' names if they are in a clan (the RPer/leader have the right to choose the warrior name), preferably through PM.
  • When putting up a search for RPers for the kits, please include the parents, the parents' clan(s), if any, the genders of the cats, and the RPers of the parents and each of the siblings. Pictures help, as well as a basic description of each kit along with a certain personality trait for the kit.
  • If the parents are in two different clans (or one is a loner while the other is in a clan) the kits will stay with their mother until the kits are at least six moons old. If they wish to be like Tawnypelt in the books and escape to their father's clan/lifestyle, then they will first be able to do it at six moons.
  • When a kit finds an RPer, it is the RPer's responsibility to post/create the kit's bio, (NOT the parents' RPers) and the RPer MUST create the bio so it can be accepted BEFORE RPing as the kit.
  • When the parents create the thread for the she-cat giving birth, it is helpful for everyone if one of the RPers PM the kits' RPers (and, if they are in one, the clan's medicine cat) to let them know that the kits are being born.
  • Please note any bans that are stated in the header before having kits. Your she-cat may be stuck pregnant for a while if there is a ban on the clan.
  • Please RP the queen being pregnant in at least three threads before having her give birth.
  • When the kits are born, if they are in a clan, please either PM a staff member or post on the clan's stats to let the staff know that the stats need to be updated.
E

Also, clan kits are not allowed to leave the camp. Some adventurous kits may try to escape, but they should not get very far before either their parents or one of the many other clan members find them and bring them back. Kits have tiny legs, poorer senses, and don't know anything about the territories or defending themselves, and should not be RPed outside of the camp, for they would get hurt. If, by some chance, they do manage to escape, pray that their ancestors are watching them so they don't get seriously hurt before being found shortly after leaving.

Nit-Picky Stuff That Didn't Fit Anywhere Else:
  • Only ONE account per person. Don't try to trick us with multiple accounts; we have ways of easily figuring out if you have more than one.
  • Absolutely no one-liners and no double posting (unless you're in the Spam board).
  • Use correct spelling and grammar to the best of your ability. There is a wonderful spell-checker button that you can click before hitting the "Post Reply" button.
  • Stay active with ALL of your characters.
  • Always have an IC sample when auditioning.
  • You MUST take turns when posting on threads. If there are three people on a thread, you do not have to be the RPer on every-other-post. Also, in example, if one person is offline while the other two are, do not leave the offline person's cat behind. The two online people may post a couple of times, but then stop the thread to wait for the other person. Give others a chance to respond. In addition, do not be rude and ignore others on the thread.
  • Just as a note, to go along with the Clan Histories, GemClan-followers generally seem to be a bit more tolerant of outsiders than StarClan-followers are. If there is a loner who wants to join a clan, chances are they would have much better luck fitting in with a GemClan.
  • There are to be no mention of any canon cats from the books on this site. For example, no stories of Firestar or Tigerclaw’s and Hawkfrost’s evil ambitions.
  • Likewise, do not have any mention of SkyClan or the Tribe of Rushing Water; please keep the clans just as the eight we have now.

Just About Done...

Failure to obey and follow these rules will result in warnings. When the warning bar reaches 100%, you will be banned for a certain amount of time. However, depending on the rule broken, banning may be used straight away. Other punishments may include locked threads, loss of a high position, etc.
M

The rules on this board are subject to change at any time. It is up to you to check back here periodically to see if any changes have been made.

If there are any questions about any of these rules for whatever reason, please don't hesitate to PM a staff member. ^^

Okay, yes, thank you for reading all of that. Or, if you haven't, you'll have to read it to find the letters of the password that lets you gain access to the Character Profiles. ;D

If you were bored enough to count them, there are 8 posts on this Rules thread. Each post contains a very well-hidden letter. One letter per post. Once you find all eight letters, then put them in order from the first post and there you have it. Easy enough, right? BUT, since the password is case sensitive we decided to have the password be in all CAPITALS. If you don't have it all in capitals, then you can't get in because it won't let you. If you are having extreme difficulty, then you may PM a staff member to help you.
